“After graduating, I was deeply honoured and grateful
to have been considered for the Harry Steele-Bodger
Memorial Travel Scholarship, an opportunity that has
reignited my passion for veterinary medicine and enabled
me to make a meaningful contribution to the animal
welfare on Mayreau, the smallest island in St Vincent
and the Grenadines. Through this scholarship, I have
been able to conduct research focused on understanding
the perception of animal welfare on the island and the
difference in attitudes towards animals. Additionally, I
have had the opportunity to advocate for animal welfare
through owner education and engagement initiatives
during my time in Mayreau. I am grateful to the BVA and
the trustees of the Harry Steele-Bodger fund for their
support and recognition. To those interested, I highly
encourage applying for this scholarship as it is a wonderful
opportunity for all students and recent graduate.”

“Having graduated from the ŷϷ¼ƽ̨ with BSc in
Bioveterinary Science (2019), and MRes in Genomics
(2020), I have continued my research career with a PhD
at University College London where I am researching
how deep learning can identify antibodies with
therapeutic potential. The projects in domestic livestock
genomics, which I selected whilst at the ŷϷ¼ƽ̨ have given
me a solid foundation in bioinformatics and programming
necessary for my current research. Following my PhD
I hope to pursue a career in life science consulting
which allows me to use both my knowledge of the
pharmaceutical industry and the problem-solving
skills I have acquired throughout my academic career.
I absolutely recommend the ŷϷ¼ƽ̨ for school leavers
looking for a small close-knit research community which
produces exceptional science.”
